New Jersey Drug Crime Attorney
First Time Cocaine Drug Offenses
Our state is very harsh on cocaine drug crimes. The
penalties are severe. Drug offenses include, but are not limited to, such actions as
trafficking,
possession,
possession within a school zone,
possession with intent to distribute and
drug distribution. These offenses are prosecuted vigorously regardless of what type of drug is involved in the act.
If this is your first drug offense, depending on the seriousness of your charge, you may be eligible to participate in a diversion program that New Jersey has made available. Diversion can allow you to avoid a criminal conviction. This program is called the Pretrial Intervention Program (PTI). Its purpose is to rehabilitate offenders who can learn from their mistakes. A person is usually placed under probation supervision. Once they have successfully completed their probation supervision, the charges are dismissed. The record of the arrest can be
expungedlater on. On this program you may be able to avoid a
suspended driver's license. To find out if you are eligible for PTI and to answer questions you have, you must consult with a
New Jersey drug crime lawyer.
Penalties in Drug Crimes in New Jersey
Not everyone is eligible for the diversion program. Even though this may be your first drug crime, Attorney Marain and Attorney Byrne highly recommend having a proven lawyer by your side to increase your chances of a positive outcome. Penalties may include jail/prison time, fines, probation, community service and driver's license suspension.
They take defending their clients very seriously. They pursue the most favorable outcome possible. Their goal is dismissal of all charges. When that is not possible, they seek a reduction of charges and penalties. They are available to use their knowledge and experience to your benefit.
